BPI Boston 2025: Lessons from raw material variability — Customized solutions for Bioprocessing
The biopharmaceutical industry has increasingly recognized the critical role of raw material consistency in ensuring robust and reproducible bioprocessing outcomes. Variability in raw materials, particularly in cell culture media and buffer components, can lead to significant disruptions, affecting both product quality and manufacturing efficiency. BASF has aligned with industry needs by developing application-specific solutions that mitigate performance fluctuations.

BASF has leveraged our extensive chemistry and manufacturing knowledge to introduce specialized products tailored for biopharma applications. Notably, Kolliphor® P188 Bio and Kolliphor® P188 Cell Culture were designed to address variability in cell culture performance. These poloxamer-based excipients offer enhanced consistency by minimizing hydrophobic species and trace metal content, which are known contributors to variability. We have also offer Kollipro™ Urea Granules, a compendial GMP product for use in inclusion body solubilization and chromatography column cleaning. The granules allow for improved flowability, resulting in reduced agglomeration, and decreased preparation and handling time.
