Biopharma Formulations: Moving Beyond Polysorbates

Dr. Bijan Zakeri’s webinar will focus on surfactants used in the formulation of biologics which include antibodies, therapeutics proteins, vaccines, and others. Briefly, he will talk about BASF’s biopharma story, the ingredients used for formulating biologics, as well as the current state of the industry and pressing challenges. Furthermore, he will present data on Kolliphor® HS 15 and Kolliphor® ELP that are two surfactants being considered as alternatives to polysorbates for formulating biologics. Bijan will also discuss the future directions of the industry and the path to making fit-for-purpose biopharma ingredients.

Key Learnings:

  • Kolliphor® HS 15 and Kolliphor® ELP are non-ionic surfactants that have prior history of use in FDA-approved parenteral drugs and are being considered as alternatives to polysorbates for formulating biologics.
  • Poloxamer 188 is an established alternative to polysorbates for formulating biologics and has been used for formulating marketed drugs that include antibodies, a fusion protein, therapeutic proteins, peptides, and a gene therapy vector.
  • BASF is increasing its presence and capabilities in the biologics formulation space by providing high quality biopharma ingredients to address unmet industry needs.
