HLD-NAC: A New Era in Emulsion Design
Oil/Water emulsions are used in many pharmaceutical dosage forms to solubilize active ingredients, assist in skin penetration, and increase drug bioavailability. However, formulating emulsions is notoriously challenging due to a complex interplay between multiple competing forces, often leading to unstable formulations. As a result, current formulation approaches are empirical and paint an incomplete (and often inaccurate) picture of the emulsion landscape, complicating formulation development.
Hydrophile-Lipophile Difference / Net-Average Curvature (HLD-NAC) is a new, innovative approach for rational design of pharmaceutical emulsions. In an environment where fast, efficient product design is critical, HLD-NAC principles can significantly accelerate formulation development with minimal trial-and-error.
